New Year, New You
With the new year, comes a fresh start and a clean slate. People are given the chance to set goals and recreate themselves. Whether or not they take advantage of the opportunity, or follow through with it is up to the person themselves.
“I believe New Year’s resolutions are good. They give people a chance to start over; to change their life. It’s harder to do that in the middle of the year,” said Jianna Avila (10).
There are a plethora of resolutions that can vary based off the person. From eating healthy, to watching less tv, people are given many new options of change in the new year. Some strive high, believing in approaching their resolutions head on, as well as their ability to maintain the alterations they make at the beginning of the year.
“It’s the best time to change myself, and my life. I always wait till the new year to make resolutions, or else I won’t follow through with them. It goes along with the whole “new year, new me thing,” said Justin Mazzola (10).
Other’s believe in the gradual adjust to resolutions, and thinking small then working up. They hope for a longer lasting result, that eventually begins to take on a permanent role in their life.
“It’s good to have goals, but I feel that they need to be more realistic and reachable. They need to be something you can be motivated to keep up throughout the year. They need to something they can eventually expand on,” said Brianna Mccolgin (11).
Either way, resolutions are known to have a positive impact on a person, and their life.
“Resolutions give you something to strive for during the new year. It gives your mind a fresh start, and provides an opportunity for people to give their minds a new perspective,” said Autumn Mckim (10).
Along with the average resolutions, there are goals. These goals can be a treat to themselves, or the people around them.
When asked what “special treat” they are planning to give this year, many replied, all with unique responses. These responses varied based off the person, and their individual wants and needs.
“I was going to save my money to buy a computer, and at the same time, hoping to find a better paying job, to pay for it. I want to mature,” claimed Curtis Lellman (11).
Although it’s not a proven fact, new year’s resolutions are a great way to stay motivated throughout the year. Resolutions give anyone, despite who they are, a chance to start over, and better their life. Through gradual, or automatic change, the new years gives everyone the feeling of a renewed beginning.
