Sonic’s Speeds May Be Running Through HHS

Here at Heritage High School I believe I can speak for all of the student body when I state that the school has slow internet. For a majority of the students living in Brentwood the buffering, the lagging, and the “spinning wheel of death” applies to our internet at home as well. In our classrooms no more than a few students can be on the internet or else pages start to fail, and forget about using the computers in the library; unless you’re alright with it taking your whole lunch to print out one paper!

Dealing with slow internet in schools is a pain, especially with how much technology has advanced in recent years.

“The role the internet plays in a student’s life is bigger now than it ever has been, both students and teachers rely on the internet for homework, notes, and information,” said JC Murray (12).

The demand of these assignments to be completed at home for a student is almost inevitable. Let’s say there’s 3,000 students at Heritage (give or take) and every student throughout a school year is given at least one project that they’ll need to get online for at home. This means that over 2,000 homes in Brentwood (not counting the students that live in neighboring towns) have need for an internet connection.

If the connection at our homes is as terrible as it is at school then this one project could take hours of slow connection and frustration to complete, this doesn’t even factor in nightly homework, studying, and assignments a student may need internet for as well!

“One of the things in education that we talk about is college readiness, and trying to replicate that when you go into classrooms. Not being able to provide viable internet to our teachers is frustrating, and it’s frustrating for the students,” Says Eric Volta (LUHSD Superintendent) in the video “How Sonic’s Gigabit Fiber Internet helps Brentwood public schools”.

Lucky for us Brentwood has recently had a breakthrough in internet connectivity. Sonic Internet is in many homes around Brentwood and continues to be installed at new homes daily. Sonic offers Gigabit Fiber Internet and Home Phone, which produces internet speeds of a full thousand megabits from $40.00 a month.

“Sonic speeds would make the essential access of internet faster, and more efficient,” Murray (12) declares.

If a student has Sonic at home internet connection will never conflict with completing an assignment. There is no lagging, no buffering, and that “spinning wheel of death” will never bother you again. On top of amazing internet speeds that will knock your socks off, a Home Phone line is included as well. Plus Sonic does not speed tier or throttle, so they’ll never slow down your speeds and ask you to pay more.

“Sonic is all about getting you the fastest speeds for the lowest price,” Dane Jasper (Sonic CEO) frequently reminds his customers and potential customers.

Of course this seems like a great decision for a student’s home life, but how will it help the students at Heritage High School? Sonic Internet may provide free Gigabit Fiber internet to public schools in Brentwood if a certain amount of the households within the school’s jurisdiction signs up for Sonic! All Sonic needs is the support of student’s and their families, so Sonic can support us students.
