Lady Patriots

Varsity player Jordan Sweeney points to direct her teammates for the next play.

2017–The year of the rooster, a new beginning, and the Lady Patriots. Finishing 10-0 in league, and 26-6 in total, the Lady Patriots had an amazing year. Not only were they able to remain the ‘alpha dog’ in the BVAL, but they are ranked an amazingly high 3 seed in the NCS tournament. There was no stopping this red-hot team, as Oakland Tech figured out the hard way in a 74-29 loss, along with St. Francis learning the same lesson suffering a loss of 63-48.

The powerful, offensively threatening team was led by emerging sophomore point guard, Jordan Sweeney. First arriving on the scene last year as a freshman, Sweeney is no joke, averaging around 14 points a game, and well known around the league as the MVP. However, in addition to being an amazing player, she is part of the amazing team that we all know and love, and swears that no one piece would work without another.

“This season has been so much fun! I love this team, and between winning BVALs and continuing on farther than we did last year, it’s just a really cool experience. I really think we’re going to keep being successful both this year and in my next season[s],” said Sweeney.

The week of March 14, they took on McClatchy high school at McClatchy, where unfortunately, the long-drawn road of victory came to a screeching halt. Suffering their biggest defeat of the year, the Lady Patriots were still able to maintain a positive attitude despite the disappointing ending. Sophomores and seniors alike were on the same page on this season.

“It was such a fun season to watch, and even better to be a part of it, from the practices to the postseason, it was amazing,” said sophomore Kendyll McHenry,

No matter the future, this year will forever live in this school’s history, for not only do these girls have a winning record, but they have something special. A little spunky, very determined, and all about business, Heritage Lady Patriots will be a force to be reckoned with for years to come.
