Tennis Team Finishes The Season Strong
Dedication, hard work, and fun. These are the words used by Chris Dong, Heritage High’s tennis coach. The lady patriots have earned yet another BVAL victory. Upon winning their sixth BVAL championship, the girls tennis team is now proceeding to NCS.
The legacy of BVAL victories is due to the team chemistry between all the varsity members.
“Everyone helps each other to improve and support each other,” Coach Dong said.
The introduction of new team members this year changed the team dynamic of both the singles and doubles sides. Yet through motivation to do their best, the team was able to strengthen each other to a 10-0 record.
The sole loss to Cal High in the beginning of the season was a learning moment for the entire team.
“Even though we loss, it made us realize what we need to work on and made us learn to play at a high level.”
The defeat was the fire that fueled the rest of the season bringing the team to an overall 15-1 record. With the team containing mostly seniors, especially on the doubles side, next year will be a test to see if the lady patriots will be able to uphold the reputation they have set for themselves.
“I expect them (the freshmen) to work during the off season if they wish to continue success from past years.”
With new teammates and different line ups, next year will the perseverance the lady patriots have to capture another BVAL victory. Now that the official season is over, the girls are preparing to face other league champions in NCS. Heritage has never gotten past the first round of NCS but this year’s team holds a lot of talent and promise to do so.
