Veteran’s Day Celebrations

Veteran's Day Celebrations

November 11th, 1918, a day remembered worldwide as the end of the first World War. Today it is known as War Remembrance or more commonly in America as Veteran’s Day, a day set aside to honor those who lost their lives for their countries and all those who do or have served.

Although many just use the date as a day off of school or work, there are just as many events such as memorials services and performances to honor the veterans.

The Heritage pep band played at Veterans Park on Sunday,November 11th,attracting a large crowd filled with veterans and their families. Many recall the event as a day of fun filled with laughter but also a day of remembrance for those who have fallen.

“I learned more about the significance of life and the meaning of survival.” says Morano, a veteran who served sixteen years with the national guard. He now celebrates every year by wearing his service uniform.

Students from Heritage took part in some more interactive activities, with the band playing at the Veteran’s park that afternoon where many veterans attended.

“It was a tremendous honor to play for the veteran’s,” says Ryan Smith (12) who attended the celebration and played with wind ensemble. The day was nostalgic many recalled, with a mix of both happy and sad memories.

Although Veteran’s Day can be a day of sorrow and remembrance, it can also be a day of happiness and thankfulness.
