As family, friends, and students filled the theater of Heritage High School, the members of this
year’s Improv Team were anxiously preparing backstage, warming up and going over games.
The crowd was buzzing with excitement. When the clock struck 7, the lights began to dim, it
was showtime.
Being thew first improv show of the year, many of the teams’ members were nervous leading
up to the show but knew it would have an overall positive outcome.
“I am extremely nervous, I have never been more nervous in my life, but I have faith that it
will go really good. Anything can happen though, and there are many shows to come even if it
doesn’t go good,” said Annabel Kramer (12), the 2023-2024 Improv General.
Joseph Alzubaidee (11), one of three new members to this year’s team, had high expectations
for this show.
“I think it will go great. I know a lot of people are coming and I’m planning on a sold-out
show. I’m super excited, my whole family’s coming, my brothers coming from Santa Barbara,
and I’m so excited for that. I feel like we’ve advertised this show really well. Nervous? I don’t
know, but I’m for sure excited. I’m ready to go,” said Alzubaidee
This improv show was special, it was the teacher improv show, where teachers participate
along with the students in playing improv games. The teachers who participated were Mrs.
Pennington, Mr. Pennington, Mr. Weinert, and Mrs. LaPrade.
The teachers had lots of preparation and practice leading up to the show day.
“We had 2 practices before, we had a few teachers come for those, we only had 4 this year but
they all came out and they were all super excited and we just taught them the games they were
in, and it was a good time,” said Alzubaidee.
This year not only is there a new improv general, but the club’s advisor is new as well. Mr.
Weinert will be taking over this role and overlooking the club.
“I would really like just to carry forward the spirit that they’ve had, just to push that along, that
they will grow and have a great year. It’s a lot of fun and I would encourage anyone who’s
interested to try out for it,” said Weinert.
The improv team is thrilled to be back and are looking forward to putting on many more shows
this year.
