In response to the recent events of Hurricane Lee, the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority has canceled any and all ferry service on Friday through Saturday. Normal operations are set to resume on Sunday following the storm. Maura Healey has declared a state of emergency for Massachusetts ahead of the formation of Hurricane Lee.
As of 11 am on Friday Hurricane Lee reached up to 395 mph south-southeast of Nantucket Massachusetts. The storm sustained winds of approximately 80mph, labeling it as a category 1 storm. Although the strongest winds of the store have yet to take form by while passing over the Gulf of Maine, Massachusetts citizens are instructed to stay indoors for the duration of the storm.
The storms surged through the coasts of Cape cod, New York, to the Canadian border. The Hurricane brought along with it floods with about 1 to 3 feet of water. The next day, the storm’s winds decreased to about 74 mph, creating a minor decrease in the threat it has to the cities of the east coast.
After the high amounts of wind produced by Hurricane Lee, although the strength of hurricane Lee is decreasing, Rain fall is still hitting England as a result of the aftermath of the Storm. Cycling back to the U.S., Maine had begun to worry for power outages, as it is one of the most forested states. Maine has already experienced damage from summer showers and is hoping that the effects of the storm don’t prove dire to the states and its forests.
“I see that the victims of the storm are in a very terrible place, because of the hurricanes being a disturbance to their homes in Florida,” said Gavin Fox (11).
Due to the approaching storm in Maine, President Joe Biden granted a disaster declaration, issued by the Maine Government.
