Jiya Gamez (12) has been playing golf ever since she was 12, and she has recently been
crowned as the 2023 Girls Golf BVAL champion. A notoriously successful team, it is the 11th time in a
row Heritage’s Girls Golf has won their BVAL. There is still one obstacle to go NCS. Gamez
said her team has a positive outlook towards NCS as they have been focused and committed all
season.
“Not a single day has gone by without me picking up a golf club” said Gamez.
Gamez’s Dad introduced her to the sport because of the opportunities it can provide, but she does not
just play for the benefits, but also her love of the sport.
Gamez has been posted on the Heritage athletics Instagram @heritage_athletics
congratulating her on the achievement. Gamez has been incredibly happy for her team winning
BVAL and is proud of being marked the champion of BVAL.
An interesting fact many do not know about Gamez is that she loves to play football. Gamez
loves to play football although she has been committed towards her golfing career as she has
incredible abilities and does not want to get injured.
It is always hard to be a senior athlete as you have one final season for your high school team,
but it does not mean you have stop your sports career there. Gamez has plans to continue her
golfing career in Idaho as she has been offered a full-ride scholarship. Gamez started playing
golf ever since she was 12 and played at Heritage since her freshman year.
Gamez competed in a regional golf tournament called Helen Langfield and she ranked 7th out
of 90.
“We do have a great golf team, and everyone has been really supportive of each other and
especially to me since they know it is my last year playing,” said Gamez.
