The World Cup makes a return in 2026 for a special time for the 23rd edition in History. 2026 though, is
unlike any other world cup that has been held before. They decided the take the World Cup through 3
different countries being United States, Canada, and Mexico. 16 different cities around the world, 2 in
America well known by California residents, being San Fransisco and Los Angles.
“We are proud to be the Los Angeles Host Committee for the FIFA World Cup 2026. Since being
announced as a host city, we have been working closely with FIFA on many aspects of the event,”
said the Los Angeles FIFA World Cup Host Committee.
Players from team Argentina, the 2022 former champions, say that they are looking forward to keeping
their title from the Qatar World Cup last year. Los Angles is offering there most recently built stadium,
most commonly known as the home of the LA Rams and LA Chargers American football teams. Sofi
stadium in Inglewood California was built in 2020 to host NFL games but in 2026 sided with FIFA to help
host matches during the World Cup. As well as Sofi stadium, the 49ners have opened Levi stadium in Santa
Clara to participate in the cup as well. This same stadium has hosted super bowl 50 in 2016 and has a large
capacity of 71,000.
“I understand Messi winning the World Cup is massive, but you can’t look past a treble-winning team and
what Haaland bought to that, breaking records. He deserves that, Ballon d’Or. If he doesn’t get it, then it’s a
scandal,” player Michail Antonio said.
As well as the amount of people these different stadiums across the US bring in, many questions come
along from sharers of the profit and revenue from the stadium’s owners. Owners are unhappy with how the
revenue will be shared through FIFA, the cities, and the stadiums. Kroenke Sports & Entertainment (KSE)
are threatening to walk out on hosting any world cup matches until FIFA officials decide to renegotiate
their offer all together. The 2026 World Cup is seeking to drive about $11 Billion of revenue during this
massive event. With a $3.1 billion revenue boost from ticket sales alone, it’s no doubt the investors and
company owners are looking to dip their hands into this pot of gold.
“Besides having the premiere venue in the world, KSE continues to provide incredible support to our
committee. With KSE as a partner, Los Angeles will deliver to the highest standard on the world stage,”
said FIFA.
The FIFA President Gianni Infantino has spent the last month working in the U.S. on attempting to regather and rebuild relations ahead of the up-and-coming 2026 World Cup. FIFA themselves still have yet to announce what stadium will be hosting the 2026 Final matches, hopefully they are hoping to come out with a decision through the coming months. But it’s easy to assume that every stadium is looking to be the one to host it because they know exactly how much profit it can bring in.
