On January 26th, a rap feud between Megan Thee Stallion and Nicki Minaj broke out with Thee
Stallion’s new song “Hiss” on January 26th. In the song “Hiss”, Thee Stallion touched various
aspects of Stallion’s life as a celebrity, but there was one line that caught an abundance of
attention from her fans and Minaj. “These h* don’t be mad at Megan, these h* mad at
Megan’s Law,” stated Thee Stallion.
Megan’s Law is a federal law that requires law enforcement to make information available
about register sex offenders around the area. The lyric was picked about by fans who linked it up
as an apparent diss from Thee Stallion to Minaj’s husband, Kenneth Petty, who is a register sex
offender. Petty was found guilty of attempted rape in April 1995 for an assault on a 16-year-old.
Petty served four years for the crime and served time for manslaughter in the first degree for
killing a man in 2002.
Shortly after “Hiss” dropped, Minaj quickly ran to her husband’s defense on Instagram live as
soon as “Hiss” became a trending topic on X. Minaj seemed really irritated as she previewed an
unreleased song on her Instagram live. In the track, she made several references to Thee Stallion getting
shot in the foot by Tory Lanez in 2020. The trial for the shooting ended last year with Lanez
being sentenced 10 years in prison.
Three days later, on January 29th, Minaj released a song titled “Big Foot,” but Minaj already
previewed most of the song on the platform X. Minaj was quoted criticizing Megan for winning
a Grammy, but still needs to “learn how to rap on beat and be comfortable by in the music.”
With the “Megan’s Law” line, Minaj stated “You bring 30-year-old tea from when this man was
15 years old child. You bring up 30-year-old tea cause no man will never [expletive] love you, and
lying on your dead mother” (Thee Stallion’s mother passed away in 2019).
The controversy between Thee Stallion and Minaj would not have happened if Minaj did not
address the lyric from “Hiss”. Thee Stallion was not pointing fingers at Minaj herself; she was just
stating factual things that happen in the industry and was not directing them at Minaj. To this day, Thee Stallion has not discussed anything Minaj was talking about; she has been supporting
her latest song and moving forward.
