On February 2nd, love was in the air at Heritage High school’s theater as the members of the improv team prepared backstage to put on the first show of 2024. At 7 pm, the lights went down, and the show began.
Being the first improv show of 2024, many of the team’s members were nervous before the show started, but luckily the energy of the team helped bring the mood up.
“I think it will go good because everyone backstage seems excited for the show,” said Alice Ashcroft (11).
One stand out moment from the night was when the performers engaged with the audience during the game “Bonkers.” In this game, the team calls members of the audience up to the stage to give them random words when tapped on the head that they then must incorporate into their scene. The only catch is that the selected audience members must cover their ears so they cannot hear what is going on in the scene.
“It was fun, I could hear most of what was going on though. To be honest I tried saying random things to see how they would deal with dumb scenarios” said Santino Hernandez (12), an audience member who participated in the game.
In honor of Valentine’s Day, many of the team and audience members dressed for the occasion. Members of the team had on Valentine’s Day themed headbands and many audience members wore pink or red.
“The spirit in the theater really made the show much more special and made it feel like Valentine’s Day,” said Angelina Warren (11), an audience member at the show.
The improv team’s ability to connect with the audience and each other is admirable. The bond between the performers and team helped improve the show.
“The team has gotten closer over these past couple months. Since we got new members, we kind of had to figure out how the team worked together again” said Adam Boatright, a returning team member of the improv team.
The final act concluded with the show’s last game, “Switch” The team received a well-deserved applause from the audience and took a final group picture. This show was a hit, and the team cannot wait for the next!
