As the years go by, AI has progressively gotten more and more popular with the world. And as the days go by, AI develops even more. With its ability to constantly learn new things, who knows what the world will be like in the years to come. But with the rapid growth of this idea of AI, many people have begun to worry about it.
“While I haven’t really used AI for school, people I know have. Sometimes it doesn’t work, but other times it looks really believable,” said Cody Wong (12).
Following the explosion of AI generated media and content people have been exposed to throughout this year, it wasn’t too long until people began to worry about it. AI generated content has been deemed “unoriginal” and “lazy.” While the development of AI content was interesting and impressive overall, people have found a way that allows them to monetize content that many may see as unoriginal.
While some people are afraid of seeing everything as fake, others are afraid that their jobs are at risk. Not only are industrial jobs, such as warehouse and factory workers at risk of automated replacing, it seems office workers are at risk as well. As the internet grows so does the fear of fake art, videos and other digital content. Content like movies and jobs associated with them, like concept artists and story writers, are at risk of the creation of AI generated concepts, stories, and or character dialogue.
“The American workers who have had their careers upended by automation in recent decades have largely been less educated, especially men working in manufacturing” says New York Times.
Articles also suggest that the growth of AI should be as prioritized as much as the threat of nuclear war and global pandemics, suggesting it could be another factor of global extinction. Other people say that AI is a risk of national security breaching, suggesting that open AI can destabilize global security and national nuclear weapons. Essentially there is a worry that open AI will gain the abilities to be used against people. Rather to develop fake content or propaganda, break through security, or bypass people’s privacy and data, AI is constantly developing, but it may be wise that our online security and defense against it are too.
