Diving into the world of water polo at the relatively late age of 16, Heritage senior, Ashton Culpepper (12) didn’t let time dampen his spirits or talent. With a natural affinity for the sport, he took to the water like a pro, quickly mastering the game’s difficulties.
His dad recommended that Culpepper give water polo a shot. After an impressive first year on the junior varsity team, his skill set sent him to the varsity level, where he spent the last two seasons showcasing his talent and becoming a key player for the boy’s water polo team.
Juggling the demands of high-level sports and academics is no small feat, yet Culpepper found his way. His approach is disciplined, emphasizing the importance of prioritization and planning. “For me, it all starts with priority and making a plan,” Culpepper states. By putting his education at the forefront, he ensures that his academic performance remains stellar. Water polo, his second priority, receives full dedication once the schoolwork is under control. This balance allows Culpepper to excel in the classroom and the pool, proving that success in both arenas is achievable with the right mindset.
Culpepper has recently committed to the University of California, Merced. This decision marks a personal milestone for Culpepper and brings a promising future for the UC Merced water polo team, as they gain a player known for his skill and well-roundedness.
