It’s the season of love, and for the students of Heritage High School, Valentine’s Day means
celebrating and welcoming the spirit of love in all sorts of ways. Whether it’s spending time with
your special someone, or hanging out with friends, Valentine’s Day can be celebrated and the
spirit of love can be embraced by all.
But Valentine’s Day does not just have to be about having that special someone. Foursome, its
an excuse to spoil themselves and show a little self love. This remains true for student Marina
Greth (11).
“For Valentine’s Day I’m going out and I’m buying myself flowers and chocolates and I’m
going to get Crumbl Cookie,” said Greth.
Greth believes that Valentine’s Day is a day where she has an excuse to be extra loving with
friends and family.
Not having a Valentine on this day can make some feel lonely, so many people choose to focus on their non-romantic relationships that matter. Mya Pedrini (11) says that every year her mom
gets her a gift for Valentine’s Day, whether she has one or not, her plans with her mom are to
hangout all day, then go out to dinner together.
Some people like to rebrand the holiday and instead of celebrating Valentine’s Day, use this as
a day to celebrate friendship and call it “Galentine’s Day.” For student Yolette Gomez (11),
having a Galentine’s party can be a great way to take time and appreciate friendships all around.
“I prefer Galentine’s for sure, I think it’s so much more fun when you’re with your friends
rather than a significant other,” said Gomez.
Gomez also plans to attend a Galentine’s Day dinner with her friends, and appreciate her
friends and spend lots of time with them.
At the end of the day, Valentine’s Day is a day to celebrate love in every form. Whether you
have a partner, or your valentine is your mom, Valentines Day can be celebrated by all, and a
day to be filled with the spirit of love.
