The multi-cultural rally is the last rally of the year! Heritage students represent their culture, while having fun and participating in activities. Each year they add more cultures as more students come in. The rally is full of games and dances and different cultures come together to show off their dance skills and their cultural clothing!
One of the groups that performed in the rally was the Afghan Culture Club. They danced a traditional Afghan dance called the “Attan”. The Attan is where the dancers form a circle and perform twirls and steps to the beat of the music. The dance was choreographed and performed by students. Rubie Kakar (10) This is Rubie’s first year performing at the multicultural rally, she enjoyed performing and enjoyed practicing to show off her culture.
“Since it was my first time performing, I was nervous since everybody was looking at us, but when I started performing, I forgot about my nerves and I had a lot of fun! said Kakar.
The dance was performed by sophomores, juniors, and seniors. This was the first year that the Afghan culture was represented at the multi-cultural rally, and it won’t be the last!
The BSU step team was among the many clubs that performed. Stepping is where you use your whole body to make sound or match the beat of the music. Zoe Barron (11) enjoys being in the BSU step team and talks about her experience.
“I was a little nervous before the rally, but when I started performing my nervousness was cancelled out by my excitement and I had a lot of fun!” said Barron.
Step is a mix of African and African American dance moves and music, not only are they bringing a message, but they are also having fun! The Hip-Hop team also performed at the rally; they performed at every rally every year. Hip-Hop is a style of dance that incorporates cultural movement in their choreography. Caitlyn Ramos (11) performed at the rally, and it was her first time in Hip-Hop.
“Although I’ve performed for rallies for cheer before, performing with hip-hop is a lot different. The energy was great, and the multicultural rally is the most hype and very fun to be apart of,”said Ramos.
The Multi-cultural gets more and more fun every year, and more cultures continue to perform. Celebrating culture and diversity will continue to be something that Heritage is proud of.
