With Spring Bass Fishing in full swing, bass fisherman are back in the water after waiting to fish through the cold months of Winter. Bass fishing starts to kick back off during the Spring due to the increase of temperatures which leads to bass starting to spawn.
Spawning bass also gives opportunities to new anglers who haven’t gotten the chance to catch a bass. One example of a new angler that is hoping to catch a bass this Spring is a Heritage High School student, Daniel Cervantes (11).
“I am excited to start fishing more. I can’t wait to find some spawning fish so I can finally catch a bass,” said Cervantes.
The Spring season also gives hope to more advanced anglers who are hoping to catch the big fish during the tournament season. Bass that are spawning are one of the most popular ways to be caught due to being able to be sight fished. This is when you watch the fish eat your lure. HHS student, Noah Nguyen (11), is looking forward to bed fishing on the delta during tournaments.
“The last time I was fishing in a tournament on the delta during Spring was so much fun because my partner and I won. I’m looking forward to it again,” said Nguyen.
However, bed fishing isn’t the only thing that Spring brings. Since the weather starts to warm up, bass start to move more shallow which allows anglers to throw reaction baits such as chatter baits, topwater lures, and other fast-moving baits. A fan-favorite topwater lure that starts to become more popular in late Spring in the topwater frog.
One HHS student that is looking forward to frog fishing is Shiven Gudala (11) due to not being able to catch any frog fish last Spring and summer.
“I am hoping to catch some frog fish this Spring and summer because I had a hard time last year. I have gained more information about fishing so I think that I will be better this year,” said Gudala.
Spring fishing brings a lot to the table when it comes to anglers hoping to catch some big fish. Many people can agree that this season is one of, if not the best season when it comes to bass fishing.
