Senior trip changes, new site promises intense entertainment

Cold air fills the morning while Heritage seniors pile into several buses. The excitement is palpable. Year after year this same process is done, but class of 2017 has a twist.

In previous years, the senior trip was usually held at Six Flags with other schools, but this year some complications changed that. Not enough schools signed up for the trip, Six Flags had to collapse Heritage’s reservations presumably for financial reasons. After a week or so of being left out to dry, Heritage’s determined staff and student body found a new host for the Senior Trip: Wake Island.

Wake Island is a water park located near Sacramento. Unlike any other water-park, Wake Island has a Wipe-Out inspired course surrounded by vibrant blue water. The park contains two large bodies of water to supply its guests with the inflatable course, wake-boarding, paddle boarding, and a beach to play volleyball, Frisbee, or just to hang out among friends.

With most of the seniors being extremely excited for the new experience, some wonder if a few will feel left out in a water park environment.

“I know a couple of friends who aren’t too excited for it, but there is a beach area and other activities other than swimming that can be done,” Dean Harris (12) said.

There are many other activities that can be done if swimming is not necessarily your cup of tea. The beach area has volleyball, open space for Frisbee or just throwing around a ball, but most importantly an area to just relax and make memories with your friends. Lets not forget about eating.

“The park offers a Beach Hut Deli to order lunch from or they also serve more concession-like food at their “Island Grill,” Cameron Bonham (12) said.

The senior trip buses usually leaves around 7:45 or so, so be sure to come early (you cannot drive yourself.) Tickets will be sold from August 24th to September 2nd for $60 in the student store. Be sure to get your tickets early and to stock up on sunscreen!
