Last Days of the Farmers Market

Last Days of the Farmers Market

On a sunny Saturday morning at Downtown Brentwood, the final day of the Farmers Market occurred. Showcasing a variety of fresh foods, flowers, and more. The farmers market lasted from this late spring to fall, and finally came to an end on Saturday the 18th of November. But now that this season has come to an end, what are the stalls planning to do?

“We want to make sure our hives don’t die during the winter, and prep for next year,” said Sierra Heuer from the “Miss bee haven honey” stand, which sells a variety of different raw honeys such as Star thistle honey or Cherry Orchard/Wildflower Honey.

They are trying to get more tours of their farm located in Frog Hollow Farm, and get more education about the bees by creating pamphlet about their farm. The stand has sold out many times this year, and this she says this season was much busier than the last.

Stalls like “Vcc farms” and “Allard Farms” wants to grow more of a variety of items to sell next year, and diversify their produce to attract more customers. But for the last day they both gave out better deals for the customers. Both stalls have participated at the market For over 10 years.

There are also other stands that sold food rather than fresh produce, such as the “Tasty Zombies” stand run by Mike Vizcarra whose stand has been there since 2012. Zombies are originally made with bread stuffed with melted cheesy goodness. But some other variations are made with Turkey or Pizza ingredients. His bestseller is the classic cheesy zombie sold for $3.

“ I also have stands in farmers markets in Walnut Creek and Concord, and do catering and festivals,” said Vizcarra

Most of the vendors noticed that there were more people who visited the farmers market during the summertime while in the colder seasons less people came by.

“During the summer business was fast, while in fall business was slow”, states David Garcia from Vcc farms.

The Farmers Market season is now over and it is time to get excited for next years season coming in the late spring of 2018!
