The month of March has brought election season upon the heritage high school campus. From creative posters to inspiring campaign videos, the candidates for class office ran to win the hearts of the Patriot Pack. From newbie freshmen to soon-to-be seniors, the total 25 candidates worked to build the best campaign for election within their grades.

Along with returning officers, such as Kayleigh miller (11) ,Matero Valdillez (9), and Katherine Drees (11), there were many notable additions in this year’s race including Lexi Misquez (11), Andrew Smith (10), and Molly Elshaer(10). Noteworthy campaign videos included Nikhe Braimah (10) and Briane Arce (11).

Throughout the month of February the candidates worked earnestly in their campaigns.

“I made a few pins and handed those out, which probably helped me get my name out there. I also made a few posters, but the most effective campaigning method was definitely just going out and introducing myself to people,” said Nikhe Braimah (10).

I just went out and talked to people mostly. I made a few pins and handed those out, which probably helped get my name out there. I also made a few posters, but the most effective campaigning method was definitely just going out and introducing myself to people.

For many candidates, the opportunity to be in class office gives them a chance to express the interests of their peers and work to accomplish the goals they have for the school year.

“I wanted to keep up the positive change for our class and continue to see proms, dances, and events carried out in the best possible manner so I ran again,” said Lucas Bosman (11).

Class office positions include president, vice president, secretary, historian, and treasurer. The collection of students is responsible for fundraising and planning key events for their class. For the juniors and seniors, the main focus for their officers is to fundraise and plan their respective proms.

Despite the hard work that goes into managing their peers, the class officers have a great time and enjoy the role they play at heritage.

“The experience was awesome, all the nominees were extremely kind,” said Nikhe Braimah (10).

After all was said and done, the winners were chosen by the votes from their fellow patriots. Class of 2019 officers include: Lexi Misquez (Historian), Adriana Herrera (Secretary), Lucas Bosman (Treasurer), Abigail Nomura (Vice President), and Kayleigh Miller (President). The upcoming junior class officers are: Andrew Smith (Historian), Riley Cagle (Secretary), Kendall Jensen (Treasurer), Molly Elshaer (Vice President), and (President).

With a successful campaign, the 2018-2019 class officers are ready to represent the Patriot pack in the upcoming school year.
