Student to Student On the Watch This Halloween (2018)

As the temperature drops and the leaves fall from the trees, people take out the pumpkins and Autumn candles. As they cozy up with their blankets and fuzzy socks, many look to the opposite of warmth as they search for scary movies to watch this fall season.

First things first, there is a difference between Halloween movies and scary movies. Halloween movies are those for the “enjoyment of the season” as Arturo Ayala (11) would say. Scary movies, on the other hand, are those that people watch, and fear is instilled within them.

“Scary movies can be very suspenseful but can take a while to get to the climax of the movie. This can create a lot more horror within the scary movie genre than the Halloween genre. Plus, Halloween movies usually focus on Halloween night,” said Keanu Garcia, a local community member.

However, this student recommendation does not discriminate on Halloween movie versus scary movie. Instead, the spooky season brings both genres together.

“My favorite Halloween movie is The Nightmare Before Christmas. I know it sounds cliché, but it’s true. That or Twitches” Marielle Kepo’O (12) revealed.

While Kepo’O may enjoy Halloween movies of the Disney genre with a happy ending, scary movies are a bit of a different story.

The best scary movie to watch this October, if you only have time for one, is The Conjuring as recommended by Carter Sims (12) and Kepo’O.

However, for those ready to get their Halloween AND scary movie marathon on this year, two lists have been made. A student recommended list made by Ayala, Kepo’O, and Sims (in order of rating), and a top 100 list according to IMDb, linked below.
