The 61st annual Grammys will be held on February 10th at 5pm (est), and will air via CBS at 8pm. The host of this year’s Grammys has not been announced to the public, but, there are many speculations pointing towards Ben Winston.    As per usual, the Grammys will be held at the Los Angeles STAPLES Center, and it’s safe to say the audience will expect many great artists to receive their hard earned awards.
The nominees for the Record of the Year range from Drake to Zedd, and primarily include pop artists.
Though it is difficult to predict a winner, it is easy to tell the top contenders. Record of the Year nominee Childish Gambino expressed strong symbolism in his nominated song “This is America.” Yet, the cinematic element of Kendrick Lamar and SZA’s “All the Stars” brings in many listeners, and as the song was a feature in the 2018 hit movie Black Panther, the song naturally gained a mass amount of publicity. And of course there are fan favorites like “God’s Plan” by Drake and “The Middle” by Zedd.
“I think ‘I Like It’ will win. It’s a good energetic song, that’s enjoyable, and Cardi B really grew in the last year,” said Jyrhed Suriba (11) who has a taste in modern pop and alternative.
As for the contenders for album of the year, the audience will see appearances from artists such as Cardi B, with “Invasion of Privacy.” The audience of the Grammys will also see newer emerging artists, who’ve gained listeners in this past year. Artist H.E.R., has gained a nomination for her album titled after her stage name: H.E.R.. She is best known for her popular song “Best Part,” with fellow pop artist Daniel Caesar.
“The Black Panther album has a really wide variety in its songs, and “All the Stars” was a really good song from that album. I think that’ll win,” said Isabella Baeza (10). She enjoys a wide variety of different music styles, ranging from alternative rock, to modern pop.
In the Song of the Year category, fans will see many iconic songs of 2018 up for nomination. A few are Kendrick Lamar and SZA’s “All the Stars,” Ella Mai’s “Boo’d Up,” and Drake’s “God’s Plan.”
“I think God’s plan or All the Stars will probably win, those are the two that I hear the most often. And I feel like I see different age groups listen to them too – little kids and older,” said Sandra Pleitez (10), who enjoys listening to modern pop and many other music types.
The 2019 Grammys should be a big success, and the public looks forward to seeing their favorite music artists receive their hard earned awards, after this past year of work and dedication.
