Heritage High School just hosted its annual homecoming dance last Saturday, September 23rd.
According to the leadership class who created the event, more than 1,800 students attended
which made it one of the school’s biggest events of the year. The majority of the students who
attended were Seniors because it’s their last homecoming dance. Heritage seniors Messiah
Alvarez (12) and Jonah Greth (12) were one of the many seniors who attended.
Planning an outfit for homecoming wasn’t as easy as it seemed.
“It doesn’t take me more than two hours to pick out an outfit because I always keep it simple
but it also depends if you’re going with a date or not because you would want to match with
them,” commented Greth
It was a special moment for the seniors because their freshman year was during the pandemic.
“I feel that it was a bittersweet moment for most seniors because it was our last homecoming
dance and we didn’t really get to experience it our freshman year because of the pandemic,”
stated Alvarez
Seniors weren’t the only ones who attended this event. Heritage freshman Addie Jenkins (9)
also attended the dance with her friends.
“My friends and I were excited because it’s our first homecoming dance, we weren’t
disappointed at all and we had an amazing time,” claimed Jenkins
Homecoming wouldn’t be complete without its royal court. Heritage senior Samantha Chao
(12) was crowned Homecoming Queen two consecutive years with her Homecoming King also a
heritage senior, Demetrios Basa (12) who has won homecoming court all four years.
Chao (12) claims that a great homecoming queen is someone who cares for the school’s
community and showcases Heritage’s core values which is; Honesty, Equality, Respect, Integrity,
Trust, Achievement, Giving, and Excellence. Chao (12) also stated that a great Homecoming
Queen should be a strong leader who represents the school’s culture and spirit as well as a
positive attitude.
Homecoming was a great headstart for Heritage’s 2023-2024 school year as it was very
memorable and is definitely going in the books.
