In current times, social media platforms dominate our daily lives. They help us communicate
with one another and engage with newly posted content from our favorite content creators. If one
consumes too much social media every single day, it can affect their view of the world, and even
their personal values and morals.
Social media can expose us to certain behaviors, attitudes, and values that can lead us into a
path of harming or entirely changing one’s views in life. Social media can influence a person to
commit acts that would go against what they know is right.
Social media often normalizes and perpetuates harmful behavior and attitudes by promoting
content in a person’s feed. As a result, the media one consumes daily advertises things like exploitation,
manipulation, dishonesty, and cruelty.
Videos can discreetly promote these things that are dangerous for whoever consumes them
daily. Social media can amplify negative behaviors like cyberbullying, spreading misinformation,
and encouraging unethical actions. Young people who are exposed to behavior like this at an
early age will automatically assume that those following behaviors are normal.
Not only does social media encourage immoral behavior, but it can also lead to mental health
issues if not used in a responsible way. Young people compare themselves to
unrealistic body images. These stereotypes are set by people on the app; it can also lead
to an interruption in teenagers’ sleep patterns, which can lead to sleep deprivation, a sleeping
disorder.
Too much social media each day can damage the mind and lead to depression and anxiety.
Teenagers should learn how to manage their time on and off social media so that it will not
consume all their time.
By learning how to responsibly manage one’s time off and on social media, one can avoid
significant risks to mental health and well being. If learned how to use properly,
social media can connect someone to more positive videos online to sway them into a better path
of being honest, fair, and showing forgiveness, teaching them the value of having good
morals.
