Throughout March, the stage was set, the lights dimmed, and the audience held their breath in anticipation as the curtains opened to reveal the dazzling world of “Legally Blonde.” Heritage High school put on legally blonde for seven nights in March, all of which sold out. This iconic musical came to life in our school’s theater. It captured the feeling of humor, love, and empowerment.
From the moment the musical’s first notes filled the theater, it was clear that this production was special to the crowd and the actors. The actors worked under the guidance of our dedicated directors, Amanda Moore and Shara Main. They began working on this musical in January, giving them three months to rehearse.
“We put in a lot of effort and time into this musical, but I think it was all worth it. I wouldn’t do anything differently,” said Ashleigh Stone (11) an actress in Legally Blonde.
“Legally Blonde” is a story of self-discovery and female empowerment, following the journey of Elle Woods, a sorority girl who defies stereotypes to pursue her dreams of attending Harvard Law School. The musical tackles many themes that were meant to be taken away by the crowd.
“I saw legally blonde on one of the Saturday shows and I think something I could take away from it is don’t give up, keep preserving,” said Paige Maher (10).
One of the most memorable aspects of our production was the outstanding performance delivered by our crew. From quickly moving props, to building sets, to actors’ makeup, this production would not have been possible without our crew. Whether they were constantly helping or just sitting back, our talented crew helped make this show possible.
“I am on props crew and we had to move the sets around scene to scene. It was a lot of hard work, but it was such a fun and amazing time,” said Averi Millward (12).
The dance numbers were another highlight of the production, from the Irish jig to just classic dancing around, all students put lots of time and effort in to learning these dances directed by Shelly Dowell. From the high-energy “Omigod You Guys” to the empowering anthem “Bend and Snap,” each dance served to further the narrative and deepen the story.
Heritage’s production of “Legally Blonde” was a major success, showcasing the talent and dedication of our school’s staff and students. Through its messages the musical left a lasting impression on all who experienced it, reminding us that with determination anything is possible.
