The stage was set, the lights shone bright, and the audience buzzed with anticipation. It was the moment everyone had been waiting for, the crowning of Mr. Patriot. Among the many contenders were three remarkable individuals: Heritage seniors Jeremiah Flores (12) who was crowned Mr. Patriot, and his fellow contestants, Christian Basa (12) and Jason Barnes (12). Their dedication and talent culminated in an event that would leave a memorable impression on all who attended.
Flores (12), opened up about his journey to the title. During preparation, he claimed that it wasn’t just about having the right moves but also the right mindset. “I didn’t have much time to prepare for Mr. Patriot because I also had to run the hip hop dance showcase which took most of my time, but I didn’t let that stop me from competing in this competition. It’s really all about knowing how to set your priorities straight and know how to balance.” Despite this being his first pageant-style competition, Jeremiah’s motivation was deeply personal. He was driven by the desire to challenge himself and embrace the thrill of the competition. With two years of experience in dancing and choreography, he brought a unique flair to the stage. Nerves were inevitable, but Flores’s strategy was simple: focus and breathe. While acknowledging the strong competition, Flores reflected on his own journey, contemplating what he might have done differently. Yet, in the end, he stood there, proud and humbled, believing in his heart that he was the right choice for Mr. Patriot.
Basa and Barnes shared their insights as well. Each contestant brought their own style and dedication to the event. Preparation involved rigorous practice and mental conditioning, with some facing the challenge of a pageant for the first time. They all admitted to feeling nervous, a common experience in the limelight, but they each found their own ways to stay calm and focused. Their motivation varied, from the allure of competition to the joy of performance. When asked about their chances of winning, they reflected on what could have been improved but also recognized the excellence of their competitors.
The journey to Mr. Patriot was more than a competition; it was a testament to the hard work, creativity, and passion of all participants. It was a celebration of talent and a showcase of the vibrant spirit that defines them. For Flores, making history by being the first openly gay winner of Mr. Patriot was not just a personal victory but a moment of collective pride, a feeling shared by Basa, Barnes, and the other contestants who together made the event unforgettable.
