At 7 pm on April 26th, the crowd at Heritage High School’s theater was filled with family and friends, eagerly waiting for the show to begin. Broadway Night is where students can sing songs from their favorite Broadway musicals and showcase their talents. Tickets were $5 online only on the Heritage High School Rising Stars website, and seating was general admission.
This year Broadway Night was only available to current Juniors and Seniors in the club, making it an experience for students that have been waiting to participate in the event.
“I chose to participate in Broadway Night because it has always been something I’ve wanted to be a part of since I was a freshman. The fact that we have the ability to choose any song from any musical and are able to display that in a showcase full of other great performances really makes Broadway Night something that has always intrigued me” said Joseph Alzubaidee (11).
During the rehearsal process, some performers ran into challenges and obstacles leading up to the night of the performance.
“One challenge in the rehearsal process would probably be learning one of my performances the day of, because it was very stressful to learn all of the harmonies,” said Ashleigh Stone (11).
Most students who chose to participate took part in multiple performances. Students were able to do solo, duet and group numbers.
“I was lucky enough to be able to perform three songs during Broadway Night, “Time Stops” from “Big Fish”, “Sincerely Me” from “Dear Evan Hansen” and “Can’t Fight This Feeling” from “Rock of Ages.” These are all songs I love and are some of my favorites on Broadway, but I chose them because they are songs that my friends and I have always wanted to perform together,” said Joseph Alzubaidee (11).
At the end of the night, all seniors involved with the Rising Stars Club performed in a group number, which was “You Will Be Found” from the musical “Dear Evan Hansen.”
“My favorite memory from the night was doing the final senior bow with my friends. It was bittersweet because it was my last performance with these people I have been performing with for years,” said Megan Stephenson (12).
Broadway Night is a night packed with fun not only for performers but also for audience members, and is a great way for the club to close out the year.
