Starring American actress and singer who is known for her role as Lucy Gray Baird in the film The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes and West Side Story, Rachel Zegler plays as Snow White in the new live-action Disney film: Snow White. The film was directed by Marc Webb and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. The Israeli actress and model who is known for her portrayal as Wonder Woman in the DC Universe and as Gisele Yashar in Fast and Furious, Gal Gadot plays as the Evil Queen.
The Columbian actress, Zegler, has faced a lot of backlash and death threats since she was announced to play Snow White in the musical. She also has received backlash around a resurfaced interview from 2022 with Variety. Zegler stated in the interview that she was bringing a ‘modern edge’ to the musical and that she stated it was no longer 1937 which was when the original musical Snow White as well as the first Disney movie that was released.
“We absolutely wrote a Snow White that is not going to be saved by the prince and she’s not going to be dreaming about true love, she’s dreaming about becoming the leader she knows she can be and the leader that her late father told her she could be is she was fearless,” said Zegler.
Many people stated that after that interview, Zegler’s true personality was shown and how she has such an ‘ugly personality.’
After the movie was released, people also started hating Gadot calling her acting ‘bad’ and ‘cringy.’
People boycotted the musical due to Gadot supporting Israel during the Israel-Palestine conflict and as well as being a part of the Israel Defense Forces for two years as a combat instructor.
“I stand with Israel you should too. The world cannot sit on the fence when these horrific acts of terror are happening,” said Gadot on Instagram.
When people went to watch the musical in the theaters, some of them claimed that Zegler was the only thing that made the film tolerable. However, people have said that the cinematography was horrible, the costume designing was bad, Gadot’s acting was ‘trash,’ and that the CGI was horrible. Some even felt the movie was so bad that they left in the middle of the film.
Since the backlash of the live-action remake, Disney has announced to the public that all live-action remakes have been put on hold due to the negativity being shared by people.
