Plastic grass, fresh paint, and dry rubber update Heritage’s athletic aesthetic over summer 2016 in the newly renovated football field, track, and tennis courts.

The Liberty Union School District decided it was due time to update a few of Heritage’s recreational aspects. With money put aside for renovations, the school board finalized the arrangement- Heritage history would be altered forever.

Just a week after graduation, construction began on the football field. The massive piece of land shed its 10 year-old skin for a fresh turf with bright, Colombia blue end zones that read, “Patriots”.

After just 3 weeks, the new pigskin sanctuary was complete:

“The new field renovations will give the team a leg up just by keeping us healthier than we would be on the old field” said Heritage’s Varsity football captain, Nick Zell (12).

Soon after the football field was complete, the decade old track quickly went under development. There are still elements to finish; however, the updated track is mostly settled:

“There’s a new bounce to it, so it’ll be easier to run on it. They fixed the track setup to match everyone else’s, so it will make us feel a lot more professional” said Brianna Pecknold (12).

In between the football field and track constructions, the tennis courts were also being updated. In less than 3 weeks, the tennis courts were complete with a crisp, blue base:

“There’s a different feeling to the courts now that they are fresh. Knowing the school cares enough to update our courts makes us feel more appreciated” said Rigel Sison (12).

The constructions meant more than just visual beauty to Heritage’s Athletic Director, Mr. Cruikshank:

“Part of the reason we decided to renovate is for the overall safety of the students. It is our #1 priority” said Cruikshank. “Everyone just sees the glitz and the glamour, but it is really in our best interest to maintain safety, not only for our athletes and PE students, but also for the rest of the community who use our field, track, and courts.”

With renovations costs ringing in at nearly $750,000, Cruikshank, along with Heritage administration and the rest of the LUHSD, encourage students, staff, and the entire community to take pride in the school, and respect the HHS campus and its newly made renovations.
