New Sports Store Comes to Brentwood
This month Lone Tree Plaza welcomed a new sports store, Sportsman’s Warehouse, located at 5491 Lone Tree Way, Brentwood. The store takes up around 29,000 square feet of retail space and is between Petco and Michaels, the space that was once occupied by the store Smart and Final which crashed in 2009.
Sportsman’s Warehouse carries products for outdoor enthusiasts who enjoy hunting, fishing, camping, backpacking, or shooting. Handguns, rifles, ammo, bows, canoes, BBQ grills, and apparel are some out of the more than 60,000 items that are provided at the store.
They are also known for selling top-quality products for low prices, however, Sahn Cannon (11) does not completely agree with that statement.
“I think some of the products are overpriced and others are about the same price as similar stores but there is not really anything that is at a surprisingly low price for it’s quality,” explained Cannon.
Additionally, customers can be educated on products through special events, classes, seminars and expert presentations right at the store or through their website. Sportsman’s Warehouse Inc. has made it clear that their employees are all locals who have knowledge on the products since they too use them on their own outdoor adventures.
Prior to Sportsman’s Warehouse opening, sports stores have not been present for the last couple of years in Brentwood since Sports Authority, which was in the same shopping center, and REI Co-op, located in the Streets of Brentwood, went out of business. In Antioch, Sports Chalet also closed in 2013 which was then replaced with a Sports Authority that later went bankrupt in 2016.
Economic development is the City of Brentwood’s main focus and they saw this store as a way to strengthen and expand the local retail sector and at the same time create more shopping options for residents. Jackie Fortner (12) is pleased that the City of Brentwood decided to open a store like this.
“I think a store like Sportsman’s Warehouse is needed in at least every town or city because there’s always people who are looking for hunting, fishing and other recreational resources and sport equipment, and until now, people would have to drive far distances or order online just to purchase quality equipment they need which is inconvenient,” said Fortner.
Sportsman’s Warehouse Holdings Inc. announced that they were opening two other new stores in Parker, Colorado and Corona, California as well. After the grand opening celebrations there will be a total of 13 stores in California.
In Brentwood, the Grand Opening Celebration took place at the store on October 15-17, which was filled with busters, discounts, and special prizes. The popular radio station, The Hawk, also made an appearance.
“This type of store is not for everyone, and for me the amount of guns being sold were kind of crazy to see in Brentwood, but I understand other people like these types of sports and hobbies and this store would be a good place for them to go to,” commented Alyssa Duran (12).
Sportsman’s Warehouse is now open everyday from 9am to 9pm. The store follows a strict regimen of cleaning, sanitizing, and social distancing to ensure the health and safety of their associates and customers.
