On Saturday February 17th, Brentwood’s Chamber of Commerce celebrated its annual event honoring citizens who gave back to the community in extraordinary ways. This event consisted of every award from Non-Profit of the Year to Youth of the Year and took place over a three-course meal at the Brentwood community center.
Maggie and Rene De Luna were honored as Citizens of the Year this year. They own a ranch in Brentwood and have constantly given back to the community in too many ways to count. Sadly, it was announced during the event that Rene De Luna had passed away an hour before accepting the award, leaving the countless people whose lives the pair touched in tears.
“My parents have spent their whole lives giving back to this community leaving huge footprints for me to fill. I will honor my father with this award before putting him to rest,” said David De Luna, the couple’s son.
This awards ceremony meant a lot to the people of Brentwood, so being given this final title
meant a lot to the De Luna family.
“I feel honored to honor these amazing people,” said Tanya Alviles, the committee leader of
this event.
Aliviles, along with everyone at the event, was left feeling pride in the De Lunas being given this award. It truly felt honorable to honor such amazing people.
“Happy, retired, growing my plants and trees, doing community service projects with the Brentwood Lions Club, my objective is to keep making friends and to live long enough to see my grandkids grow up,” said the De Luna couple on their company page.
The De Lunas are inspirational, especially to younger members of the community. We as a community wish them the best as their family copes with the loss of a spectacular and selfless man.
The De Luna family is well known across Brentwood for the events held at their ranch including many days dedicated to servicing children with disabilities. The family will continue to inspire the community and Maggie will continue to give back to Brentwood in Rene’s honor.
