Heritage High School is buzzing with excitement as a new teacher joins the school for this
upcoming year. Mrs. Moore, the new theater teacher, brings her passion for theater and many
years of experience to our community. She teaches theater one, two, three, and four.
Mrs. Moore has been a professional theater educator for over 12 years, although her love for
theater runs deep. She grew up in Lauderdale, Florida watching local theater productions like
The Wizard of Oz and Beauty and The Beast. She took her first acting class at six years old. At
16 she started choregraphing and directing children’s theater.
Mrs. Moore has described her time at Heritage so far as busy. In just a few weeks she switched
from Educator Director at Children’s Musical Theater in San Jose to her new role at Heritage
High School. She has done months worth of production and class planning in a matter of days.
“Getting into the classroom and rehearsal room with the students has made all the hard work
very much worth it…I’m feeling very inspired by their work and getting to know my students has
been a real joy thus far,” said Moore.
Since Mrs. Moore is a new teacher, she has introduced new techniques of teaching that
students seem to be enjoying. These new exercises help students get relaxed and ready to work.
“I think we have better warm-ups. Usually in theater we do warmups to get us started and she’s
been having us relax going into it instead of being energetic and it helps,” said Ashleigh Stone
(11).
With the previous advisor gone, Mrs. Moore is now also the director for the Rising Stars
Program. This year she plans to incorporate the upperclassman as student directors,
choreographers, and vocal directors. She is also hoping to get more kids involved who maybe
have not had the opportunity before.
“The program is going in a good direction, I think it’s very positive,” said Erin Lellman (12).
Overall, students are taking a liking to Mrs. Moore.
“She’s very knowledgeable. Shes studied theater pretty well and knows how to teach it. It’s a
bit different but not too much, I don’t feel that out of place from where I was last year,” said
Joseph Alzubaidee (11).
Mrs. Moore is very excited to take on this upcoming school year and she is thrilled to be
working with her phenomenal students.
