The girls tennis tournament occurred this Friday, October 12th at Freedom High School. The team got together for the much anticipated tournament. All of their hard work had finally came down to this event.

Hooker explained that having a positive mindset is very crucial and will affect a player overall performance.

“When I play singles though, it is up to me to have a clear mind and really focus on staying positive and not focus on the score so much while playing,” said Hooker.

Raven Yelder (9) believes that she not only has to focus on her mindset while playing, but also the appropriate strategies.

“During a match I try to aim to a spot on the court where I know my opponent will have to run to go get. Just like our coach,” said Yelder.

Aiming is one of the many things that is very important to keep in mind while playing to challenge your opponent.

A common question the team is asked is if they ever get nervous or feel pressured while being watched during a match.

“Of course, but you can’t think about it too much,” said Azelia Iburra. “You can’t think about it too much because then I you lose focus on the game.”

Blocking our the negative thoughts and second guessing is something most of the players have learned to put aside.

After many close matches, the Heritage team earned the fourth place trophy. They all had fun and everyone enjoyed the event. Congratulations to the girls tennis team!
