Heritage’d Girls Varsity Volleyball team celebrate after a well deserved win against Freedom

Heritage’s Varsity girls’ volleyball team have been “bumping, setting, and spiking” their way to a great season this year. The ladies are second place in league along with being champions of the Stockton Classic Volleyball Tournament.

Their most recent games were against Pittsburg on October 18, Liberty on October 20, and October 25 against Deer Valley. These ended with a 3-1 win over Pitt, a 3-0 win over Liberty, and a tough 3-2 loss against Deer Valley. Although they are 14-12 overall, they were 7-1 in league play right behind Deer Valley in 2nd place who was 8-0 in league at the time.

The game against Deer Valley was the league decider, with only one game left in the season after this game against Antioch, the ladies knew they had to pick up the win to be in first place in league.

Cameron Grant (11), a player on the varsity volleyball team describes the game, “we started off with low energy in the first 2 sets but picked up the energy in the second 2 to tie up the match 2-2,”

There was a lot at stake, the whole team knew that they had to win the 5th set to put themselves in first place.

“The last set was very intense, but we just fell short, it was one of the best games we have played, even though we did not win,” said Emily Strauss (11).

They could not get the win but the ladies were proud of their performance and are getting prepared for their first game of NCS which is on Wednesday, November 2nd.

The ladies also played in the Stockton Classic where they went undefeated to win the tournament.

“The tournament was some of the best volleyball we have played all season long and we knew we needed to get some wins to bring our record up,” said Strauss.

All season long the ladies have been working hard together to be a successful team overall and they know that they couldn’t have done it without each other.

“We had some ups and downs, but we all have come together as a whole to get wins,” said Grant as she believes that the team is hitting their peak right now about to go into playoffs.

Overall, the varsity volleyball team has been grinding all season to get to the point they are at right now and they continue to be the best that they can be, going into playoffs.
